PROSOFT PLX31-EIP-MBTC
1. Overview
The PROSOFT PLX31-EIP-MBTC module is developed by ProSoft Technology, Inc. of the United States. It is designed to solve the protocol conversion challenge when EtherNet/IP™ controllers (such as Rockwell Automation’s PLCs) need to interoperate with Modbus TCP/IP devices (such as controllers from Schneider and Siemens).
2. Specifications
- Power Supply: 24 VDC power supply, supporting an input range of 10V-36V, with overload protection.
- Communication Interfaces: The EtherNet/IP™ interface supports 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, and Modbus TCP/IP supports standard 10/100 Mbps Ethernet.
- Operating Environment: The operating temperature range is -25°C to 70°C, suitable for most industrial sites.
3. Product Features
- Bidirectional Communication: Supports EtherNet/IP™ controllers (Masters) to read data from Modbus TCP/IP devices (Slaves) and vice versa, enabling true bidirectional interoperability.
- Data Priority: Supports data priority setting to ensure real-time transmission of critical data and reduce network congestion.
- Simplified Debugging: Built-in powerful diagnostic functions that support error code reporting, enabling quick location of communication faults and shortening debugging time.
- Conformal Coating: Optional conformal coating, suitable for harsh industrial environments and providing additional protection.

4. Structure and Composition
The module usually adopts a DIN rail mounting design and includes the following main components:
- Power Supply Module: Responsible for converting on-site voltage into the DC power required inside the module.
- Processor Module: Built-in EtherNet/IP™ and Modbus TCP/IP protocol stacks to perform protocol conversion.
- I/O Interface Module: Provides physical connection points and supports Ethernet cable connection to the on-site network.
5. Application Areas
- Manufacturing Automation: Integrate Modbus TCP/IP devices into existing EtherNet/IP™ control networks to achieve data sharing between devices of different brands.
- Building Automation: Integrate sensors and actuators from different suppliers in building management systems for unified management.
- Energy Management: Realize remote monitoring of Modbus protocol devices (such as meters) in power and energy systems.
6. Installation and Maintenance
6.1 Installation
Adopt the standard DIN rail mounting method, and connect the on-site Ethernet cable to the corresponding EtherNet/IP™ and Modbus TCP/IP interfaces.
6.2 Configuration
Parameter settings are performed through ProSoft’s configuration software (such as ProSet), including communication rate, data mapping table and priority configuration.
6.3 Maintenance
The module supports hot swapping, so there is no need to power off during replacement and maintenance. In addition, the built-in diagnostic LED indicators can display communication status and error codes in real time, facilitating on-site maintenance personnel to quickly troubleshoot problems.
