4. Structure and Composition
- Main Control Unit: Responsible for executing the excitation control algorithm and outputting excitation current commands.
- Power Electronic Converter: Converts DC power into DC current required for excitation.
- Communication Interface Module: Provides a communication interface with upper computer or protection device.
- Protection Relays: Built-in protection functions such as overvoltage, overcurrent and loss of excitation.
- Cooling System: Usually integrated with the generator’s cooling system, using cooling water for heat dissipation.

6. Installation and Maintenance
Installation
- Usually installed inside or beside the generator’s Excitation Box.
- The interface adopts a standard card-type design and plug-in connection, without complex wiring.
- The installation location must ensure good heat dissipation conditions, usually connected to the cooling water pipeline.
Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Including cooling system inspection (no leakage, normal flow), power supply voltage inspection, and wiring tightening.
- Fault Diagnosis: Use HMI (Human-Machine Interface) or SCADA system to monitor excitation current, rotor temperature and alarm information.
- Spare Parts Replacement: Core power electronic components (such as IGBT) are usually equipped with hot-swappable spare parts for quick replacement.
